Boxing News – Every Punch, Every Week, Since 1909

It was started by John Murray, a contributor to Health & Strength magazine who convinced its editor to publish a dedicated fighting issue. In the 1930s, Boxing News was sold to a syndicate of London sportsmen who installed Sydney Rushton as editor. He attempted to run the publication as a newspaper and cut back on popular features causing Boxing News to slump in popularity. It was saved by Billy Masters, a city printer and boxing fan and was revived by W H Miller who wrote the title’s famous motto – “Every punch, every week, since 1909”.
