EcoHome Spray Foam Insulation
EcoHome Spray Foam is sprayed on walls, attics and crawl spaces to fill cracks and crevices where water leaks and draughts may occur. It provides an airtight seal and helps with energy efficiency as well as mould prevention. It also provides a faster installation than traditional insulation materials.
A lot of work has gone into making spray foam more environmentally friendly, however the chemicals used still have a high global warming potential and are toxic to humans. It is recommended that you choose a reputable installer who uses an alternative blowing agent.
EcoHome Spray Foam Insulation: A Sustainable Solution for Your Home
The typical chemical used to make spray foam is methylene diphenyl diisocyanate (MDI) and the manufacturing process contains chlorine compounds, dioxins and furans. It is a serious health concern to workers as it can cause irritation of the eyes, gastrointestinal tract and respiratory system. This can lead to a chemical sensitization where any subsequent exposure can result in asthma attacks and even life threatening illnesses.
There is a new generation of eco friendly products using Hydrofluoroolefins (HFOs) that does not contain the toxic MDI. EcoHome is proud to offer this product as it is non toxic to install and does not contain the harmful chemical MDI.
It’s worth considering how long you plan on living in your home, as spray foam insulation can be disruptive to the structure and requires a full demolition and reconstruction of wall cavities. It is therefore, a good idea to combine the insulation project with any other projects you are thinking of such as replacement windows, which will help with energy efficiency and create the best weatherproof seal in your home.
