Dental Emergencies – How to Handle Them While Waiting For An Emergency Dentist

Often, Dental emergencies happen when you least expect them and require immediate attention to alleviate pain, prevent further damage and restore teeth. If you experience a dental emergency, you should call our office right away and we will try to accommodate you for an emergency appointment as soon as possible. During the wait, there are some things you can do that will help alleviate the issue until you can see our dentist.

The first thing you should do if you are experiencing a toothache is to brush, floss and rinse with salt water solution. If the pain persists, it may indicate that there is something lodged between your teeth. Try to gently but thoroughly brush, floss and rinse again until you can get the object out.

Broken Teeth

A cracked or fractured tooth requires immediate treatment as it can lead to serious health issues, including infection. Tooth damage is usually the result of trauma or biting on hard objects. A broken crown or filling should also be treated immediately.

Loose or Dislodged Teeth

If you have a tooth that is loosened or dislodged in its socket, there is still a chance that it can be saved. It’s important to schedule an appointment as soon as possible and use a cold compress and over-the-counter pain relievers until you can see our dentist. They can reposition the tooth or add splints to stabilize it. If the tooth is completely dislodged, a root canal therapy might be needed.
